Summers in Telangana are intense — with temperatures regularly crossing 40°C,
travellers at Khammam Railway Station face exhausting waits on crowded platforms.
Hemanand Charitable Trust stepped in with a simple yet powerful act of care:
distributing chilled buttermilk free of charge to every traveller who needed it.
Buttermilk — known locally as Majjiga — is one of nature's best remedies for
heat exhaustion. Rich in electrolytes and deeply cooling, it has been a part of
Telangana's food culture for centuries. By bringing this tradition to the railway
station, our team connected community heritage with real, immediate relief.
Our volunteers set up distribution points on the main platform early in the
morning and continued through the peak afternoon heat. Daily wage workers,
elderly passengers, students, and families with young children were among those
who gratefully received the cool refreshment.
The response from the public was overwhelming. Many travellers who had been
waiting for hours in the heat expressed heartfelt gratitude, and several local
residents joined our volunteers on the spot to help with distribution.
At Hemanand Charitable Trust, we believe that true community service means
showing up where people need help most — and on a scorching Telangana afternoon,
Khammam Railway Station was exactly that place.
We thank every donor and volunteer whose support made this initiative possible.
Together, we will continue to serve our community through every season.
